  1. Baron Levince Kerns, 65 was born April 15, 1961 to Gloria Kerns Scott and the late, James W. Kerns of Davidson NC. Baron passed away on August 23, 2026, at The Tucker House Hospice in Kannapolis, NC.                                        

  2. Baron joined Gethsemane Baptist Church at an early age and remain an active member until joining the military. He was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1980. Baron was a part of the first 4A High School Football Team to go undefeated. Baron also won the trust of the school faculty and parents and became a dedicated bus driver. After graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army, where he completed his basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia. During his service he was awarded many medals, badges, citations and ribbons. Baron was trained as an Indirect Fire Infantryman as an M16 Sharpshooter, Hand Grenade Expert. Because of his discipline, commitment and faithful service, he also was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Baron spent the greatest part of his Military journey stationed at Scofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii, were his daughter Misty Nicole was born.

  3. Baron loved his family and was a best friend to anyone he met. He carried himself with a spirit of friendship and kindness that made people feel welcome in his presence. Those who shared life with him will remember a man who found joy in simple, meaningful things and who gave of himself freely.
  4. Baron was the was the Manager of Kerns Lawn Service of Davidson, NC and work at Flowers Bakery in Newton, NC. Baron’s happiest pastimes were playing in the church softball league, spending time with friends, laughing, joking, grilling and frying fish. Baron was the life of the party.

  5. Baron will be remembered with affection for his loving heart, his easy friendship, his service to this country, and the joy he brought to so many people through food, fellowship and community.
  6. Baron was preceded in death by his father, James W. Kerns and son, Damon F. Kerns.
  7. Baron leaves to cherish his fond memories to his loving mother – Mrs. Gloria Kerns Scott(Ruben), two (2) daughters: Misty N. Kerns, Statesville, NC; Kenyatta McCain, Charlotte, NC; (2) sons: LaBaron McCain, Charlotte, NC; Brenton McCain, Lincolnton, NC; one (1) brother: Trenton Deon Kerns (Dr. RoseAnn), Greenville, SC; one (1) sister: Candyce D. Kerns,Atlanta, GA; two (2) Bonus Brothers: Derrick Scott (Anita), Braselton, GA; Maurice Scott (Stephanie), Charlotte, NC; one (1) Bonus Sister: Donna Hudson (Eric), Charlotte, NC; fifteen (15) Grandchildren: Genesis Kerns, Gemini Kerns, G’Nadia Kerns, Gino Kerns, Laila McCain, Kennedi Harris McCain, Taileek Forney, Carla McCain, Nalha Gebremedhin, Paris McCain, Brenton McCain, Jr., Malaysia McClendon, Journey Miles, John Paul Lopez, Amara Fleming. A Special Companion of 20+ years: Aljean Gibbs, Catawba, NC; four (5) Aunts: Virginia McKee, Greensboro, NC; Marie Whitley, Atlanta, GA; Dorothy Burton, Davidson, NC; Laura Huntley, Davidson, NC; Rosa Kerns, Charlotte, NC; two (2) Uncles: Sam P. Wilform (Peggy), Ellenwood, GA; Sterling McKee Sr Mooresville, NC. And a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
