Mary Ellen Jennings Reed, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering love, quiet strength, and compassion rooted in her South Carolina upbringing.

Born on April 13, 1942, in Denmark, SC, Mary Ellen's early years were filled with the warmth of family ties and the values that would guide her entire life. She grew amidst the laughter and closeness of the Jennings family, a cherished daughter and a devoted sister. Her resilience and grace were hallmarks that continued to shine throughout her many years.

Greensboro, NC, became the heart of Mary Ellen's journey, and it is here that she wove a tapestry of family, friendship, and faith. Above all, she was a loving and devoted mother to her sons, David, Sherman, and Keith Reed, who survive her and will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Mary Ellen’s nurturing spirit was evident in every homemade meal, gentle word, and the countless sacrifices she made for her family’s well-being. She guided her sons with loving discipline and an abiding belief in their potential, creating a home overflowing with encouragement and support.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Allen Reed, whose steadfast partnership brought deep joy and companionship to her days. The loss of her siblings, Richard Jennings, Samuel Jennings Jr, Harold Jennings, Bertha Jennings, and Audrena Jennings, as well as her niece, Ebonie Pressey, were challenges she bore with remarkable strength; through every sorrow, she remained resolute, drawing her family closer and never ceasing to share her warmth.

Mary Ellen’s family invites all whose lives she touched to a Viewing on August 14, 2026, between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Blackwell Funeral Home of Greensboro Chapel, 3200 North O’Henry Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27405. A Funeral Service will follow on August 15, 2026, at Providence Baptist Church, 1106 Tuscaloosa St, Greensboro, NC 27406. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, with the service beginning promptly at 1:00 PM.
