A Life of Love, Family and Memories

Robert “Ralph” Windell Slade

March 27, 1941 – August 24, 2026

Robert Windell Slade, affectionately known to many as “Ralph,” was born on March 27, 1941, in Browns Summit, North Carolina, to the late Cicero and Annie Harris. He peacefully departed this life on August 24, 2026 at Beacon Place, surrounded by the love and presence of his family. 

Ralph was a devoted father, lovingly known as “Deddy,” as well as a cherished stepfather, grandfather (“Pops”), great-grandfather (“Pop Pop”), brother, and friend. His family was the center of his world, and he dedicated his life to caring for and supporting those he loved.

Ralph attended Brown Summit High School. Following high school, he worked at a Texaco service station before beginning a distinguished 32-year career as a truck driver with Orders Distributing Company. Known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and reliability, he earned the respect of colleagues and friends throughout his career and retired in 2003.

As a faithful member of Cathedral of Praise in Greensboro, North Carolina, Ralph found strength in his faith and joy in the fellowship of his church family. He appreciated life's simple pleasures, including fishing, hunting, gardening, dining out, visiting the casino, and watching Westerns, sports, and cartoons. Known throughout Brown Summit for his exceptional gardening skills, Ralph earned a reputation for being able to make anything grow.

Ralph’s greatest legacy was the family he loved, nurtured, and cherished throughout his life. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his daughters, Angel Parker (Derrick), Norita Slade, Laura Cheston (Clary), and Mary Mitchell; his stepdaughter, Tanisha Waller (Kenneth); his stepson, Eugene Waller (Nellie); his sister, Joyce Whitt; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife of twenty-four years, Clara Slade; his son, Robert Keesee; his brothers, Frederick Slade, Samuel Bivens, Thurman Harris, Bobby Harris, Charles Harris, and Jerry Harris; his sister, Frankie Drummond; and his grandsons, Dante Pettress and Kenneth Britt.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff of AuthoraCare Collective of Greensboro for the exceptional care, comfort, and support provided to Ralph and his loved ones during his final days.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday August 29, 2026 at Blackwell Funeral Home Chapel, 3200 North O. Henry Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina 27405. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM, with the service beginning promptly at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, 3600 North O. Henry Boulevard, Greensboro, North Carolina.

Although Ralph’s earthly journey has come to an end, his love, wisdom, and kindness will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of devotion to family, steadfast faith, and generous spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to share in his life.
